Shelter + Roost property, in Country Living Magazine

Yesterday, Country Living Magazine just about fell over at the sight of this country cabin we designed for Shelter + Roost rental properties -- and we can't blame them, can you?!

This is definitely one of our favorite projects to date..... Here's what they had to say:

"We can't take our eyes off this new blogger-designed cabin in Tennessee. It's going on our fall getaway 'wish-list.'

The folks at Shelter + Roost have done it again. Located in the sleepy little town of Leiper's Fork, Tennessee, 30 miles southwest of Nashville, this charming cabin features interiors designed by Kim Leggett of City Farmhouse [...]"

Read the whole story in Country Living HERE (thanks to the ladies over there for giving us some love this month!).
Shelter + Roost property, in Country Living Magazine

Have you guys picked up the new September issue of Country Living magazine?

It’s the HOW-TO ISSUE -- secrets to doing everything better, from picking paint colors to kitchen cabinet upgrades to nine different ways to arrange my favorite -- subway tile!

A few months ago, one of the editors contacted me about contributing to the 2015 Country Living Almanac, to which I ecstatically replied "YES!" We just happened to be in Florida at the time, so I had a beautiful ocean view for inspiration. The center section of the magazine is where you’ll find the scoop.

I think you’ll love the "Yardage Forecaster." How many times have you wondered just how much fabric to buy for that upholstery job? This section explains it all with photos of various styles of sofas, chairs, pillows, table clothes, ottomans, table skirts -- even odd pieces like covered headboards, porch swings, sink curtains, hammocks, and lamp shades. You can even get the yardage for building a play tepee (in case you can’t wait to get the magazine to find out, it’s 6-8 yards!).

Country Living was kind enough to credit us on the editor's page, too (see, there's my name right along with some of the best designers in the biz!).

I hope many of you are going to the Country Living Fair in Columbus, Ohio, September 18-20. City Farmhouse will be there and we would love to meet you. And if we’ve already met, please stop by and see us to say “hello." We’ll have some cool stuff with us.

Till next time, try to enjoy the last days of summer. It already feels like fall is in the air to me...... happy pickin'! xx

We are absolutely thrilled that Country Living Magazine featured the Storybook Cottage yesterday -- that's the one that we decorated for Shelter + Roost, remember? We are so excited!!

Escape the Everyday in This Quaint Tennessee Cottage
We're swooning over this home's storybook style. Pin it now, and plan your vacay later
Featured in Country Living, April 2015

We love a family vacation as much as the next person, but there's something about this adorable rental home in Leiper's Fork, Tennessee, that says "girls' weekend." Sure, your kids would have a grand ol' time making s'mores around the fire pit, but isn't it your turn to roast some marshmallows in peace?

And your husband might enjoy a quiet retreat in the rural village outside Nashville, but we're guessing he suffers from Super Cute Blindness (a technical term), and the home's true appeal would be lost on him.

Seriously, the appropriately named Storybook Cottage, decorated by City Farmhouse, is like our favorite Pinterest board come to life. The decor, grounded in whitewashed pallets, weathered wooden furniture, and flea-market style accents, is a cozy (but not cluttered) cross between Scandinavian and rustic sensibilities.

Plus, there's a delightful surprise at every turn: Reclaimed doors-turned-mirrors frame the bedroom, a steely gray kitchen blends perfectly with chrome and stainless pieces, and we bow down to the DIYer that pained the checkerboard poplar flooring. It's totally time to take the book club on the road, ladies.

A few weeks back, we had the amazing opportunity to exhibit at the Country Living Fair in Columbus, Ohio. It turned out to be an experience of a lifetime; Country Living really knows how to throw a party! We were so thrilled that so many of our Facebook followers came to meet us. For all of you who came—THANK YOU! On Friday and Sunday, I hosted a shopping tour of the show and I surprised the group by introducing them to one of my pickers, who just happened to be an exhibitor at the show. The group really loved that I shared tips on how to buy from pickers, and you can get those tips too, here.

While at the show, I had a chance to meet a few of the editors of Country Living (a staple publication for any designer if you ask me!). And guess what—it turns out the editor in chief Rachel Hardage Barrett is also from my hometown, Dyersburg, Tenn.! What are the chances?! I have a good friend that once said, "Dyersburg is the center of the universe," and clearly that continues to prove true.

The good news for you is... Are you ready for this?! Country Living is coming to the City Farmhouse Pop-Up Show coming up Oct. 17 & 18! Management is still deciding on which editors are coming, but as soon as we hear, you'll be the first to know. Since Rachel is a Tennessee girl, I'm sure she'll be there. They were all excited about shopping the show (you may find yourself shopping right alongside them) which means they won't be hanging out at the booth the entire time. As soon as we get the schedule of a meet and greet at the booth, we'll pass that along as well.

The Country Living booth will be located on the front porch of the mansion where you can meet and talk with Jeanne Stella of Stella Show Management, the promoter for the Country Living Fair. She will be there all weekend with information on the Country Living Fair in Atlanta (Stone Mountain) coming up the following weekend, Oct. 24 & 25, and to answer questions about the recently announced Country Living Fair in Lebanon, Tenn., (the site of Country Living Fair, Nashville) in April 2015!

Country Living Fair Giveaways too!!!

There will be Country Living Fair ticket giveaways for both shows, and everyone who purchases an Atlanta ticket will be entered to win TWO nights at a hotel near Stone Mountain Park near the site of the fair.

We recently updated the website with more exciting news, so pop on over and read all about the new happenings that you don't want to miss, here! Especially the early buying event!!

Only one week away until we meet up with fellow vendors and eager shoppers at the Country Living Fair in Columbus, Ohio.

I hope you'll join me on a Shopping Tour of the Show where, together, we'll spot cool finds for creating farmhouse and Country Living style in your home.

Here are my five tips for creating the look. What tips would you like to share? I would love to know your take for creating this style.

1. The proverbial farm table—whether it's period or repurposed from vintage salvage, this furniture piece is a staple in farmhouse & Country Living style decor.

2. Conversation pieces—non-traditional vintage finds as objects and art such as industrial fan covers, mirrored doors, architectural fragments, old barn or cabin doors, musical instrument fragments, lighting repurposed from farm implements are all just a few of the many interesting pieces to create a farmhouse & Country Living look.

3. Apothecary drawers, large or tiny, are a stylish look and perfect for storage—from jewelry and crafts to kitchen supplies, these pieces, once used in pharmacies, country stores and even workshops, are highly prized in design today.

4. White ironstone—beauty + practical for everyday use!

5. Vintage maps and letters—a huge impact for not much cash!

See you at the Country Living Fair!!
