WHO IS CITY FARMHOUSE?

City Farmhouse is Kim and David Leggett – a duo who've been “pickers” for more than 20 years.

KIM LEGGETT: THE STORY

You know the old saying "it's in my blood?" Well, that's what I say about "pickin," "junkin," "antiquing"  –  or what ever you want to call it, because it's had plenty of names over the years.

It all started waaaayyyyy back when I was just five years old while tagging along with my grandmother and Aunt Sue to Friday night auctions at a dusty old barn called Peppermint Pond in the tiny town of Dyersburg, Tenn. While they were being charmed by Victorian sofas, sparking glass, and china place settings, I was peeking over into box lots of junk! That's where the real treasures were hiding - kissing celluloid dolls, old watch faces, broken shiny rhinestone bracelets, and discarded monopoly pieces - along with other interesting scraps of someone's life (like false eyelashes - they must have been very popular back in the day). Back then you could get a box lot for pennies, and not being one to pass up a deal, I ventured home with several to dig through - that was the fun part!

Five decades have passed and I've worn many hats since the Peppermint Pond  –  but I never outgrew my love for "junkin." Twenty two years ago, David and I turned my passion into a business and it's been one of the most rewarding adventures of my life. I'm in love with the stories these old pieces tell, the feel of the time-worn surfaces, the painstaking workmanship and design.

KIM LEGGETT: THE PROFESSIONAL RESUME

In addition to curating the store and the City Farmhouse Pop-up Fairs, Kim exhibits at major vintage and antique events throughout the U.S. She is a sought-after expert for guest appearances and as a host of guided tours at fairs around the country, appearing in shows the likes of Marburger Farms, the Country Living Fair, The Nashville Shows, and more.

As a freelance interior stylist, Kim's projects have been featured in a host of major publications, from Elle Décor and Architectural Digest to Gatherings Magazine, and her work will be highlighted in the spring 2015 issue of Prairie Style Magazine. She also sells her finds to museums, private collectors and celebrity clientele like Ralph Lauren, Meg Ryan, Tommy Hilfiger, Sheryl Crow, Carrie Underwood and more.

In addition to her well-honed knowledge of antiques, Kim spent two years studying floral design with well-known celebrity designer Michael George at the prestigious FlowerSchool New York in New York City.

In 2013, Kim, and her husband David, launched a shopping event aptly titled the City Farmhouse Pop-up Fair. The event invited top antique/vintage sellers and celebrities from 22 states and drew scores of shoppers from across the country and abroad to Historic Franklin, Tenn., in its first year. In 2015, there will be two fairs, and a pop-up Holiday Market!

More recently, Kim has been working on her first design book, City Farmhouse Style. The book will be the first of its kind, focusing entirely on transforming urban interiors and backyard gardens into farmhouse style. It is also slated to provide details and photographs of curated homes, apartments, townhomes, gardens and more, including the private studios of Sheryl Crow and Michael W. Smith—and recording artist Phil Joel’s downtown Franklin home and backyard chicken coop!
